˜Your SFBT tip for Spring 2016:
In the medium of story-telling and poetry, we often find wonderful strengths for ourselves and our clients. In these words of wisdom, are often the quotes of others before us that remind us of the empowering use of language. Coert Visser has put together a short presentation in his blog of some of the SF quotes that many of us find meaningful.
50 Solution-Focused Quotes
"Helping people move from problem talk to solution
With all of the lovely Spring weather and renewed growth after Winter, we were inspired to attend the Alberta Play Therapy Association (APTA) conference, Re-inspired: Resource Building in Expressive Arts Therapy with Jennie Newman and Carmen Richardson. We heard so many strength-based messages, and as we always find, it was empowering to combine our SFBT lens with the medium of art.
A few key points between SFBT and Expressive Arts that stuck with us:
Trust the client; trust their process
Look for the resource; ask "What else?" to build the resource
By taking control of the process, the client is no longer a bystander of the hurt; rather, he or she is taking action against the hurt.

Solution-Focused Reference Materials...
There are so many great Solution-Focused books, articles, videos, and related materials, that we simply can't keep up! We have started to list some of our favourites on our website at www.solutiontalk.ca. We would
love our members to add to our community list. Please email us at email@example.com
to give us your thoughts on what should be included.
Naturally, to keep in line with our expressive arts experiences this month, we would like to encourage you to explore Carmen Richardson's new book, Expressive Arts Therapy for Traumatized Children and Adolescents: A Four-Phase Model (2016). Carmen's voice in this book leads to an empowering stance of following the lead of the client, and gently tapping them on the shoulder to "notice." Although not a traditional SF resource, it is a testament to the flexibility of the approach and the fit with other strength-based views and approaches. Enjoy
