˜Your SFBT tip for April 2015:
As we all know, the SFBT approach uses different questions to find a client's exceptions to the problem and inner strengths to overcome problems and cope during times of crises. Below we found a helpful resource with some great reminders in our SFBT work with clients. Enjoy! We know that children can test our personal and professional skills to keep up with their ever–changing development and growth. Please enjoy the article below and tips that may encourage how you approach the young people in your lives.

Welcome Spring!
With all of the lovely Spring weather making its way toward us, we have been inspired to think of new growth and emerging colours and light. We had the opportunity to attend a wonderful art therapy class at the recent ACSW conference. Our facilitator, Marilyn Magnuson, did a lovely presentation. We heard so many strength-based messages, and it was empowering to combine our SFBT lens with the medium of art.

A few tips that stuck with us include:
  • Dont interpret the client's art; allow the artist to explain their work.
  • Approach your clients with "appreciative curiosity... and genuine interest and excitement in the client and in the encounter."
  • "This is a creative and imaginative space where we tolerate the not-knowing to eventually end up with work that is meaningful to us."
~ Kelly, Denise, and Lisa

" The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. Not at all. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be. "
~Robert Fulghum

We are adding to our virtual "library" and Solution–Focused interest groups and individuals through Facebook. We hope to "see" you there!
